Estimate your body fat percentage using the US Navy circumference method. You'll need a measuring tape for your neck, waist and (for women) hips.
Typical ranges: essential fat 2–5% (men) / 10–13% (women), athletes 6–13% / 14–20%, fitness 14–17% / 21–24%, average 18–24% / 25–31%.

The US Navy method estimates body fat from body circumferences and is accurate within a few percent for most people. Measure at the widest point of the waist and hips, and below the larynx for the neck.
